Case studies
Beatrice Offshore Windfarm began construction in the spring of 2017 with the installation of 84 foundations to support the Siemens Gamesa turbines, 13 km from the Caithness coastline. Working with the Tier One Contractor responsible for the construction and installation of the jacket foundations, Rix Shipping initially provided 1 Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV), the Rix Lynx, to support the transportation of up to 24 personnel from the heavy lift vessels to the transportation barges carrying the jackets and around the site.

This support increased to having 3 CTVs on site during the summer campaigns of 2018 and 2019 based at the Operations & Maintenance base of Wick, with the Rix Lion, Rix Cheetah and Rix Lynx providing versatile support transporting personnel and equipment from the base port to offshore allow a thorough snagging regime to take place prior to the handover of the foundations to the site team. To support this work the vessels provided a platform to supply power and high pressure washing facilities to allow painting activities.
Rix Renewables was asked to provide technicians to carry out the annual service and statutory inspections of the HMF nacelle cranes, litfkets and fire extinguishers, on all 19 of the sites Siemens SWT-1.3-62 wind turbines.

Rix Renewables supplied a team of HMF trained crane engineers and statutory inspectors to carry out the campaign of works. All inspections were carried out in line with LOLER regulations and working alongside the clients own technicians the works were completed with minimal disruption to turbine availability.
