The Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore wind farm will be located 15.5 km off the Fife coast and covers an area of approximately 105 km2. EDF Renewables UK acquired the project in May 2018 as part of a competitive bidding process.

The NnG project has reached Financial Close as of November 2019 and with significant pre-construction works already underway, it is progressing well towards starting offshore construction in the summer of 2020. NnG will use Port of Dundee for turbine construction and marshalling and Eyemouth Harbour is the preferred location for Operations and Maintenance.

Throughout 2019, the NnG team has carried out a range of geotechnical and geophysical surveys; required to inform the project design and final layout ahead of construction. From November 2019, a final campaign of preconstruction surveys were carried out including boreholes, on the beach and cable corridor, using the ’WaveWalker’ jack-up vessel, a seismic refraction survey, using two small nearshore vessels and one Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boat (RHiB), a further offshore geotechnical survey, and unexploded ordnance (UXO) and boulder inspection and clearance.

The project is committed to developing good relationships with local stakeholders; the appointment of Peter Berney as Fisheries Liaison Officer (FLO) for the NnG project, has allowed NnG to further build on existing relationships with the fishing community, reaching agreements with impacted fishermen to minimise disruption. This is a process that will continue throughout the construction phase. If you have any questions about the impact of surveys or construction on local fishing, please contact Peter Berney on 07391 402387 or NnG.FLO@naturalpower.com.
