Case studies

We are a vessel repair company; our largest single customer is the RNLI for which we carry out repairs to their vessels. The RNLI is based in Poole where they have facilities to build RNLI vessels and carry out their own repairs. Generally, we service RNLI vessels which are based in Scotland and the North of England for which we are ideally located. We have a close working relationship with the RNLI, who send us vessels on a regular basis and we are subject to audits by the RNLI to ensure that our working practices meet the standards of the RNLI.

Contract type: We have a contract in place with the RNLI to provide regular services to their vessels.

Value: The RNLI accounted for 19.21% of our revenue in our year end accounts ending July 2019.

We have carried out a range of different types of work on RNLI vessels, for example: In September 2019 we finished work on Mallaig’s Severn Class Lifeboat which had suffered damage to its hull after colliding with rocks. We rebuilt a section of the vessels hull around the area of its keel. The section of the vessels hull was rebuilt using fibreglass, before being finished, repainted and anti-fouling applied. Additionally, we welcomed the Severn Class Lifeboat from Tynemouth in November 2019 to have its engine changed. We oversaw the removal of the vessels Caterpillar engine, transportation and installation of its new 1800 hp MTU unit. We made modifications to the vessels engine bed which holds the engine, and successfully lifted both engines using our overhead crane facility. Finally, we oversaw sea trials on the vessel before returning it to the RNLI.

Another project in which we were involved, was with a survey catamaran called the Fugro Seeker. We do not have a contract with the owners of the Fugro Seeker to provide a regular service, and instead have only carried out work on the Fugro Seeker sporadically. I am highlighting this project though because it is in this way that we see Eyemouth Marine serving the offshore energy sector. By providing our services to the workboats which serve the offshore sites, especially given our location at Eyemouth Harbour which has been chosen as the O&M hub for NNG Offshore.

Contract type: We do not have a contract in place with the owners of the Fugro Seeker to provide regular services, instead we have a service agreement for the specific job.

Value: This project accounts for a small percentage of our turnover, but I am highlighting this customer because it is this type of customer we would like to work closely with as the Offshore Energy sector grows in the East of Scotland.

We carried out services on the Fugro Seeker in October 2019 as the vessel was in our area carrying out seabed surveys. Specifically, our work with the Fugro Seeker included the removal of a hydraulic winch using our company owned Crane. A lift plan was requested by the owners of the vessel, upon delivering the lift plan for this purpose Eyemouth Marine supplied a crane and two operators to carry out the lift. Additionally, we have fitted the Fugro Seeker with new pipework and a motor in the past. Finally, as part of our installations on the vessel we have carried out appropriate testing ensuring that all work has been carried out to the appropriate standard and that installations are operating correctly.
