UTEC NCS Survey Ltd (HQ Aberdeen) are primarily known for their provision of offshore survey crews providing ROV surveys for cables, rock laying etc, from our Livingston office we provide a range of complementary onshore services including Land, inshore Hydrographic, Utilities and Dimensional Control, Surveys. We have been heavily involved with the Berwick Bank project providing land and utilities surveys of the landfall areas around Torness and Carnoustie.
We also run a laser scanning team and have been involved in scanning substations, offshore platforms, and onshore refineries, many of our customers have also taken out licences for our iSite web application that enables users across the world to collaborate by viewing the same 3D Laser model at the same time.
As part of the ACTEON Group we can be included as part of an overall package of works that the group can and do provide to the renewable sector

Case studies
UTEC StarNet were commissioned by SSE Renewables to undertake Topographical and Ground Penetrating Radar surveys for the cable landfall areas of the Seagreen Windfarm being established in the Firth of Forth. The work area comprised two cable landfall areas either side of Torness Nuclear Power Station near Dunbar covering an area of over 310 hectares of greenfield site, over 5km of minor roads and a 1.5km section of the A1 which required Traffic Management. The work started towards the end of June 2020 and was completed mid-August. Additional works included 2 area extensions, a culvert survey and an additional area at Cockenzie

A combination of aerial and ground survey techniques were utilised to capture the data as efficiently as possible. The UAV Survey provided Aerial Photographs of the site and a LIDAR point cloud of the ground surface, this was combined with survey data captured by Total Station and GPS sensors as well as the underground data set supplied by GPR and Radio Detection techniques.

The work area involved surveying an area around each location where there was a boundary - wall, fence, ditch, rivers etc to provide suitable information for the design of the cable trench. All surveys were delivered in AutoCAD format.
