Case studies
In November 2019 Saipem were awarded the EPCI contract for the Neart Na Gaoithe (NNG) wind farm, located in the Firth of Forth, off the east coast of Scotland. The contract award covered the installation scope of 54 steel jacket foundations and also the project’s substation foundations and topsides. Offshore construction began in August 2020 and full commissioning of this project is expected to be completed by 2023. The project has the potential to produce 450MW of green renewable energy, enough power to supply around 375,000 Scottish homes every year.
Contract type: Grout Hose Packages, Neart Na Gaothe Project
Hydrasun supported Saipem with the technical design and specification of the Grout Hose Assemblies. Hydrasun then planned and executed the manufacture and testing of 1,694 bespoke, hose assemblies in line with the defined technical parameters outlined in the project specification. The whole process was project managed with regular progress updates throughout project delivery over 7 separate phases, over the course of 7 months – which aligned with the overall project fabrication schedule. Hydrasun provided supporting project documentation and export paperwork for each of the phases. Hydrasun worked closely with our customer to design a bespoke Grout Hose solution in line with the project foundation design and grouting requirements. We delivered a full turnkey package in line with the project fabrication schedule thus ensuring no slippage in overall project timescales.
Seatools are a specialist developer of custom subsea technology. One of their proven products is subsea pre-piling templates. Pre-piling templates are used as a subsea template guide during the installation of offshore wind foundation piles. Hydraulic control is required to adjust the template’s location on the seabed to ensure the piles can be installed vertically, within tight installation tolerances. Seatools were looking for a reliable flexible connection for their client, Heerema Marine Contractors, to enable the Aegir vessel to precisely position pre-piling templates to support the installation of twenty one, three-legged jackets for offshore wind turbines.
Contract type: Integrated Hydraulic Umbilical & Reeler System
Hydrasun were able to design and build a bespoke quick-disconnect mechanism into the umbilical / reeler system to reduce the potential risk from unforeseen tidal conditions impacting on installation operations. Additional ballast components were specifically added to the umbilical design to support the vessel’s quick abandonment procedure, ensuring a safer, more reliable solution. Hydrasun were able to work alongside Seatools to design a bespoke solution that ensured a safer and more reliable, integrated solution that reduced overall project execution timescale risk. Hydrasun delivered this project within the short delivery time and within budget.
