Eyemouth Harbour Trust and Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) Offshore Wind Limited recently signed a lease that confirmed Eyemouth Harbour as the project’s Operations and Maintenance (O&M) base for the project’s 25-year lifespan.

The investment in Eyemouth will bring an economic boost to the area providing up to 50 permanent jobs. Additional benefits available to the residents of Eyemouth and the surrounding area include training, retraining and apprenticeship opportunities. A number of local suppliers have already been involved in the enabling works and early site clearance.

As an enthusiastic supporter of the offshore wind industry, Eyemouth Harbour Trust also points to the existence of a skilled workforce in the following areas:

  • Electrical, mechanical, engineering, plumbing, welders working in the trade locally and at Eyemouth Marine, based in the harbour.
  • Mariners – Local fishermen working on guard vessel duties and ex-fishermen are already working in the renewable energy sector.
  • Training – Bell Training Services, Berwick upon Tweed offers a wide range of technical and machinery-related training.
