Funding and Innovation Opportunities for Offshore Wind and Energy Sector

A range of new funding calls and innovation opportunities are now open for organisations working in or supporting the offshore wind and wider energy sectors. Below is a summary of current and upcoming programmes, including research funding, feasibility study support, investment schemes and open calls relevant to engineering, manufacturing, hydrogen, mobility and clean energy development.
Current Opportunities
PBIAA Offshore Wind Innovation Funding Programme
A four-year innovation funding and collaboration programme supported by EPSRC through the Place Based Impact Acceleration Account, led by the University of Edinburgh and the University of Dundee in partnership with Forth and Tay Offshore. The programme supports collaborative projects, secondments and commercialisation activity to address real-world offshore wind challenges across technology, deployment, sustainability and community impact.
Programme runs: April 2025 to 2029.
Wind Expert Support Toolkit (WEST)
Short-term business support programme delivered by the Offshore Wind Growth Partnership, providing specialist advice, market intelligence and strategic insight to help UK supply-chain companies entering or operating in offshore wind improve competitiveness and de-risk growth decisions.

Ofgem Strategic Innovation Fund – Round 5 Discovery (January 2026)
Funding for early-stage exploration of ideas that can improve energy networks, support decarbonisation, and accelerate innovation in the UK energy system.

Fit for Offshore Renewables (F4OR) – Scotland-wide programme
An 18-month capability-building programme delivered by ORE Catapult, supporting Scottish companies to enter, scale up, or transition into offshore renewables through tailored support focused on project delivery, governance, safety and market readiness.

Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Innovation – Feasibility Studies
Support for feasibility projects that strengthen or transform manufacturing supply chains, including those linked to clean energy and engineering.

OWGP – £1 Million Innovation Funding Competition
Funding to accelerate innovation in two key offshore wind supply chain areas: industrial foundations and substructures, and substations and electrical design. UK-based suppliers may apply for £25,000–£200,000 to support near-to-market or market-ready solutions.
