FTO member RelyOn Nutec hosting Lunch & Learn to introduce innovative crane and lifting simulation technology

RelyOn Nutec UK is to bring its innovative crane and lifting simulation technology to Teesside, via an exciting lunch & learn session

Forth & Tay Offshore member RelyOn Nutec, leaders in practical and digital training for traditional and renewable energy, is hosting a lunch & learn session to introduce its crane and lifting simulation technology to the UK market, and the invite is extended to all F&TO cluster members. 

This free event will be held at RelyOn Nutec’s training centre in Teesside on Wednesday 24^th January, and will give attendees the opportunity to get some hands-on experience with its mobile crane simulator, as well as highlighting the many tangible benefits that simulation technology can bring to organisations involved in high risk operations.

This sessions aims to further RelyOn’s overall goal to improve workforce safety across the energy sector and related industries. Offshore wind incident data continues to show that lifting operations are one of the primary risk areas for the sector, and simulators offer operators the chance to train in a risk-free environment and to practice difficult lifting procedures prior to worksite operations.

The company has invested heavily in its technology since acquiring a simulation business back in 2019. It now offers a range of crane and lifting scenarios including the build of an offshore wind turbine, port crane operations, and an offshore oil and gas platform exercise. Each of these scenarios will be available for attendees to view and test at the upcoming lunch & learn.

Helen Dunn, Head of Sector - Renewables, at RelyOn, said: “This lunch & learn is a great opportunity for any person who has a responsibility for lifting operations. Simulators can be used to train and assess the workforce, and allow operators the opportunity to fully rehearse emergency procedures in a safe and controlled environment, without interrupting day-to-day operations.

“At the session, we’ll have our mobile crane simulator so that our guests can get some hands-on experience. The mobile sim is a cost effective alternative to our full size simulators and can be easily transported to customer sites. Simulation technology is becoming increasingly accessible and will undoubtedly play a major role in training of future cohorts of crane operators.”

Manufacturing opportunities in Offshore Wind

Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and South of Scotland Enterprise have published five offshore wind manufacturing factsheets covering secondary steel, anchors and moorings, cable protection, cables and accessories and corrosion protection.

The factsheets are intended to provide background information for companies wishing to enter the offshore wind supply chain, and help companies assess where their own skills and experience can be applied to these offshore wind components with detailed descriptions of the individual areas of opportunity. The factsheets include the weights, lengths and quantities of many of the most common subcomponents in both fixed and floating offshore wind. 

The Scottish supply chain has a major opportunity to enter the floating wind market in particular, as there are no existing serial production manufacturing facilities for many of the components. As Scotland will be a world leader in the deployment of floating offshore wind, this will represent a new manufacturing opportunity on the Scottish supply chain's doorstep.

Scottish Enterprise and BVG Associates are also hosting a webinar on 17^th January at 10-11am which will delve into these manufacturing supply chain opportunities.

The webinar will focus on the five key manufacturing areas mentioned above, and provide an insight into the types of components that can be manufactured, the route to market, volume requirements and the support available.

Forth Ports Tour - register interest now!

Scottish Renewables, Forth Ports Limited and Forth and Tay Cluster are delighted to be kicking off the Offshore Wind Conference 2024 with a tour of Forth Ports' Leith facility, in support of Scotland’s renewable energy supply chain. 
 
This event will take place in Edinburgh at Forth Ports Cruise Terminal, from 1000 to 1400 on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.
 
Forth Ports’ ambitious £50 million project in Leith will create a renewable energy hub on a 175-acre site – supporting Scotland’s renewable energy ambitions and net-zero targets.
 
At this Offshore Wind Conference side event, we will be joined by energy supply chain companies, developers and industry stakeholders to explore the next steps needed to support this most critical of Scottish industries, hear from keynote speakers, network with industry stakeholders over refreshments and take a guided bus tour of the port.
