Case studies
Measurement of tidal energy yield by current modelling using both sensors on both static and autonomous platforms
Contract type: Commercial
Value: £80,000
MarynSol completed a bathymetric and benthic survey, as well as current modelling of the Bluemull Sound off the Shetland Islands in Scotland, which was the world’s first grid connected offshore array of tidal energy turbines. The main focus of the project was to provide tidal current observations that could be used to calculate accurate energy yields from the tidal current resource using fluid dynamic modelling. The result of which would give rise to best practice financial decision making.
CableWynd - Demonstration of autonomous cable inspection technologies that deliver a multi-layered cable inspection process at greater accuracy and less cost than is currently available to the end-user.
Contract type: R&D Demonstration
Value: £130,000
A demonstration to a major Offshore Wind developer that delivered a granular but highly visible data set, from the tower splash zone to seabed, across all interconnectors, and export cable to shore. 1. A full splash zone to seabed (SeaWynd) to shore survey solution by Autonomous Surface Vehicles (ASV) using state of the art subsea sensors. 2. Interconnector and export cable by AUV inspection using state of the art subsea sensors. Objective to deliver a more detailed and accurate cable inspection process than is currently available to the Offshore Wind end-user. That will enhance O&M decision making and reduce the LCOE over the wind array lifetime.
