Case studies

Wind Float Atlantic 23 Degrees were contracted over the summer 2019 to provide support for the export cable installation. 23 Degrees provided a range of services including engineering support and procedure review, followed by an operational site team to manage and undertake the shore end pull in scope of work. The shore end pull in operations consisted of assistance with mobilisation and setup of site equipment, HSEQ control of the shore end site, management of the pull in operation and supply of personnel and cable handling equipment. Difficulties were faced due to the compact nature of the shore landing compound, however, these challenges were overcome by strong collaborative working between all parties.

Contract type: NEC

Value: £200,000

23 Degrees provided personnel, equipment and onsite management to undertake the shore end power cable pull in operation.

Shetland Shore End Installation 23 Degrees were contracted to undertake the shore end pull in operation for 6 power cables between the Shetland Islands. Two cables were installed between Yell and Unst (the most northerly inhabited island in the British Isles), and one between mainland Shetland and Yell. The six shore end locations were prepared simultaneously. Local environmental difficulties were faced including wet and boggy terrain, high tidal flows between islands, and extreme weather, however, these difficulties were overcome and all shore landings were completed on time and on budget. The remote location of the shore landings also posed significant challenges with locations up to 2.5km from the nearest access road, leading to a range of 23 Degrees’ off-road vehicles being utilised including quad bikes, Argo cats and tracked dump trucks. 23 Degrees mobilised a range of equipment including 4 x RHIBs, 2 x workboats, 2 x tracked winches, 6 x excavators, supported by nine 23 Degrees personnel and local contractors.

Value: £1,200,000
