Case studies
Consultation, design, planning and execution of all Marine operations, including manufacture and operation of revolutionary Sea Bed Drilling Equipment, for the installation of the Monopile Foundation structure for the Tidal Turbine for Voith Hydro, at EMEC, Orkney in 2011.
Contract type: EPCI
Value: £7,000,000
Early stage consultation to investigate new ways to drill and grout Monopile foundations into hard rock seabed, in the challenging tidal conditions of the North Sea. Drilling equipment had to satisfy many, sometimes contradictory requirement's, in order that we could perform uninterrupted subsea operations (Drilling and grouting of steel Monopile, beginning at 30m Depth seabed) throughout the tidal cycles of each day (8-10 Knots) in a wide range of weather conditions.
Scottish offshore Wind Farm, Beatrice, wanted to install Jacket foundations atop Pin Piles driven through questionable soils. Traditional Pile Driving techniques are generally fast, but were considered to be at the limit in many locations to drive the piles to design depth without suffering premature refusal. Existing techniques were considered slow and could only perform from a fixed platform vessel. Therefore a solution needed to be found to speed up 3 D operations (Drive - Drill - Drive Piles) that could be launched and recovered quickly from a floating vessel or Fixed Platform (JuB).
Contract type: EPCI
Value: £5,000,000
Research in this regard, had been underway for several years. So when we were approached to design, build and operate the solution, it was performed in a Fast track manner. Close collaboration with the Project Developer and the Project EPCI Contractor, saw the BAUER design move quickly to production. After testing and installation on the vessel, Bauer Renewables equipment and Drilling Personnel accompanied the Contractor aboard the Pile installation vessel for the duration of the campaign, on 24/7 stand by.
