British and Danish energy groups Centrica and DONG Energy have developed a 90 MW wind farm in the East Irish Sea approximately 7km south west of Walney Island, near Barrow-in-Furness. The project is called Barrow Offshore Wind (BOW). The wind farm comprises 30 modern, efficient, wind turbines, each capable of producing 3MW of electricity, delivering power to the existing grid system at Heysham via buried subsea and onshore cables. Anticipated annual production will be 305 GWh, which is capable of supplying around 65,000 homes. This figure is based on average wind availability and efficiency ratings of the wind turbines.

Our scope: Audit of the Barrow Offshore Wind Project Review the project documentation including the Contract Implementation Plan and Project Execution Plan; Confirm that the project is considering all relevant regulatory and Company QHSE standards and that all consents and approvals will be sought in a timely manner; Confirm that a satisfactory Project Management System is in place and working effectively; Confirm that the planned project management organization is suitable is effective and the organization will be adequately resourced to meet the requirements of the Project Execution Plan and that the lines of communication are clear open and effective between all groups in the project team and other parties involved in the project; Confirm that an Integrated Development Schedule has been produced in sufficient detail and that the interactions between the key disciplines have been considered (supply, cable lay, pile installation, commercial etc.); Review the contracting and procurement strategy, and contracts awarded. Review the strategy for preparation for the construction and commissioning phases.

The scope of work was the installation of the interconnecting power cables for the Nordergründe Wind Park being developed by Energiekontor AG off the North West coast of Germany. The wind park consists of 18 wind turbines, each rated at 5MW. The wind turbines are interconnected via power cables made up of three differing specifications terminated in a transformer station, where they connect to the export cable to the shore.
