Case studies
On-Turbine e-CTV charging & mooring system: Blackfish had the privilege to work with MJR Power and Automation to develop and test an innovative new system to charge and moor electric crew transfer vessels while they hang-off from operational wind turbines. As part of Innovate UK Clean Maritime Demonstration Fund, this system was concepted, designed, manufactured and assembled in just 7 months, and promises to be a major contributor to reducing vessel emissions associated with the development and operation of offshore wind-farms.

Blackfish has played a pivotal role in this project, undertaking: · Concept and detailed design of the on-turbine reeler and load compensator · Concept and detailed design of the vessel side system and electrical connector, lock and stab design · Completed all manufacturing drawings, supported manufacture and assembly.
Fatigue assessment of WTG secondary steel-work: Blackfish were brought into a project to assist with a critical fatigue issue on secondary steel-work on a leading wind turbine manufacturer.

An expedited solution was a priority for the client, and the team used their skills gained from design and build experience. We worked tirelessly to brainstorm ideas that could develop into workable concepts, before carrying out more analysis to aid with the down-selection process and presenting the potential solution concepts to the client. The success of this work demonstrates how well the Blackfish team can interact directly with both other consultants, clients and stakeholders at all levels.
